What grit of a bench grinder wheel is used to sharpen carbide lathe tools?

I have a green wheel on a bench grinder and it works for carbide. I have an aluminum oxide wheel on the same grinder that I use to shape the holder the carbide is brazed to. Use a diamond hone to hone the edge after grinding. I bought some 4-1/2” diamond discs for my angle grinder but haven’t used them yet. The comment about being gentle with them is good information. I think using them wet would also be a good idea.

Green wheel to rough in the shape of the carbide, diamond wheel to do the fine finish work and form a chip breaker. Bad thing about a green wheel is that millrights like to sharpen their tig tungsten on them and they'd leave gouges in the wheel that had to be dressed out.

Back when we were ice racing snowmobiles, we used a green wheel on a bench grinder to sharpen the 10” of 60 degree carbide we ran on the wear bars on the skis. When sharpened, you could shave with them.
