A fella somewhat close to me has a nice 1988ish Browning Citori 20 ga. Gun is like new condition, comes with a beat up Browning case, and 7 factory choke tubes. He’s asking $1600 and has had it listed for weeks at that price with no takers.

Is the gun worth that? I’d love to have it, but obviously don’t want to overpay for it.

Any gurus out there that can help me out with this one??

Barrel length? Shorter barrels bring significantly less than longer ones (28”+). If it’s 28” or longer, I’d say it’s a steal at $1600. That gun also appears to have a long tang on the bottom of the grip, a nice feature.

you wouldn't be over paying at that price.

There was a time that shotgun may have brought the $1600. However, in todays market with Bidenomics and the inflated costs of the necessities the market for such things as firearms and such is tough. If he wants a chance to sell he'll probably have to come down in price.

With the shorter barrel, $1400 would be a decent price.

Looks like a Browning Lighting.You can tell by the serial number under the lever for sure.

If it was mine there'd be no way I'd sell it for $1600

It has an Upland stock on it. That is a buying point for me when purchasing a shotgun.

Offer $1450, see if he splits the difference, you both win.

I paid $1200 for mine (28”) three years ago. That was about the lowest used price I could come up with after shopping around for some time.

Worth $1600 in my book all day long.....nice grade 1 lightning with 26" invector barrels.

I’ve offered $1500 and he won’t take it. He said he has $300 worth of chokes with it. But, those chokes are just flush mount Browning factory chokes. 3 of those came with the gun.

It's your money, but if you keep and shoot the gun for 2 years or 2 decades you won't miss the extra hundred he's asking over your offer. I'm no browning expert but price seems about the going rate.
Again it's your money but a hundred bucks in today's gun money is nickel and dime (tank and a half of gas in the truck). Question is how much you want it and is it worth it to you.

It is a Lightening Field grade I which is a great all around hunting gun. I prefer longer barrels but for a 20 ga. upland gun, 26" is about perfect. This is a basic high volume gun for Browning and they can be had for less than $2K new so $1600 might be a little high. If it is in good condition and it fits you well, I think $14-1500 would be a good deal for both of you.

Selling is tough right now, so he may have to come down to move that one. OTOH, if it’s like new and is something you want, then buying it, even at a price a bit over the current market may be a good move for you. No paperwork, no sales tax, and you know the gun’s use history. Citoris are solid guns, and parts and service easy to find if you ever need either.

The O/U market is tough right now. I posted locally a couple days ago a 2000 model Lightning 28" 20ga Citori in literally like new condition with box and over $300 in aftermarket extended chokes for $1900 OBO and a list of trades ( Jap Mag Twenty Auto 5 or H&K SBE) and haven't had a single bite or offer. I sold one just like it but that showed lots of wear and only had 2 factory chokes with it for $1400 in 2 days a few months ago
