Any idea what one of these is worth? Made in the early 2000s

I saw one locally for $300.00. However, when evaluating the value of these older Zeiss scopes, I tend to compare them to what they will give you if your old Diavari breaks and they can't fix it. That would be a straight across trade for a V4 3-12x44. Those bring about $700.00 right now.

Aren’t they a bit heavier than the Conquest?

I’m of sure what a Zeiss Diavari is that would have been made in the early 2000’s. The West German Diavaris were made previous to 1990 when East Germany was still divided. Those scopes are superb and have the rubber armor over the objective end of the scope.

Conquest scopes are not the same and are not worth as much. This is a West German 3-9X36 and it is with more than $300.00…

What action/cartridge is that, looks very short...

I have one of these and would never sell it. I do watch for them and if I found one in great condition for $300 I would certainly buy it.

I am used to seeing them priced for $500 and more.

Rubber on the objective end?

And ocular?

$600-800 range, these are German diavari, good glass in them.

I bought one in good - very good condition for $685 last year (eBay).

Got another in September for $605. eBay again.

The German 3-9x36’s had rubber on the objective and T* coatings, as did the 4x32 and the 6x32. The US assembled 3-9x36’s had metal objectives and MC coatings.

The German scopes date to the 1990’s which is when I was using them.

Interesting about the rubber on the objective.

How does the glass compare to a Zeiss v4 or an elite 4200 for that matter? If it’s a 20 year old scope I find it hard to imagine that it would. If it does heck I might want one.

I owned two of the 4x32, one of the 6x32 and two of the 3-9x36. They all had rubber armor over the objective as an earlier poster states and as you can clearly see in the photo he posted. Zeiss would have to provide the explanation as they designed and built them. I owned and used them; I was not responsible for the design. My understanding is that the rubber armor provided better shock protection to the objective lens, but I am not Zeiss.

The glass is leaded and has T* coatings so it may or may not be competitive. I found it very clear. I had a shot at a buck behind a bit of brush where I could clearly see all the branches and twigs in the way and a clear path for the bullet through the brush with the 4x32.

The Rubber on the objective bell was just for protection from bumps and bruises just like binoculars are armor coated with rubber nowadays….not that hard to figure out people.

However, not all German made Diavari’s C 3-9x36 with *T coatings we’re rubber coated….I have one. They were the very last German made ones before manufacturing of these fine scopes was moved to the United States in the mid 1990s to my knowledge.

The USA made scope’s lens coatings were the MC coatings. Still, the USA(MC coated) scopes were and are still very fine scopes. In my experience they are more robust than the Conquest line of scopes, which replaced them. I own one of these MC Diavari C- 3-9x36s as well.They will likely never be sold. The glass in them still competes with Swarovski, Kahles 1” line of scopes….and is still to my eyes significantly sharper than anything Leupold has ever made.

And yes, as stated in an earlier post Zeiss will offer a V4 scope as a replacement for a unfixable Diavari 3-9x36.

Prices are going up on these.
If you can find one in “like new” condition for $500-$600 you better grab it!

One of the best features of these fine scopes is the bold z-plex reticle which doesn’t change colors with varying lighting conditions like Leupold and even Swarovski…the Zeiss always appears black and is absolutely awesome in low light conditions.

How is the eye relief on those?

Eye relief is 3”-3.5”.
I can remember the exact measurement and am stuck in a hotel room away from home this weekend, so can’t measure it.

Swarovski A-line/Z3 have eye relief of 3.35”.

The 3-9x36 Diavari is about the same…maybe just a bit shorter.

The two I have reside on a .308 and 6.5 CM. So, it’s been plenty long to avoid “scope eye”.
I do know this, it’s better than the eye relief on the Bushnell Elite series of scopes, which I always thought was very short and critical.
