How much of that three bucks difference is the "California penalty?" Obviously, the Soviets in Sacramento don't care, they have state plastic and are the nomenklatura, but that's CRAZY, comrade!
Perhaps not as much as one might think, as we have two Rez stations that don't pay State taxes on fuel
They generally run about 40-50 cents a gallon cheaper than the cheap stations in town, which were bought up a couple of years back by Valero and 76 and are no longer much cheaper than the Chevron which runs 60-70 cents more expensive than on the Rez.
They may not pay it, but that doesn't mean they are passing it on to you. I bet their just keeping the extra margin for themselves.
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

The state excise tax is $.50 per gallon, but there are other fees. Not sure if the res would have to pay those.
But, seeing as how the CA excise tax portion of fuel prices is just about the same as the differences I posted, I'd guess they're not making much extra on us. And some sources have the tax higher now, about 58 cents.
Direct from the Legislative Analysts Office (maybe they're lying to us??)
State Collects Excise Taxes on Transportation Fuels. The state collects excise taxes from gasoline and diesel suppliers before they deliver fuel to retail stations. In 2021‑22, the tax rates are 51.1 cents per gallon on gasoline and 38.9 cents per gallon on diesel. (We provide additional information about gasoline taxes at )
Link not working, apparently ,seems to link to a video type box???

45 100, yes you are correct. California does require 'special' fuel blends that add to the cost of refining. That's on top of the $1.19 total taxes per gallon.
Shell is 6.59 for 87 grade, Chevron is 6.49, cutrate is 6.35 here in Appalachia West. Fingers crossed hoping it stays this high or goes up right up to the election, 11 months from now. Tourism and out of area hunters are staying home or closer to home I guess. The gal that owns the local bar says this is the worst deer season, business-wise, she has seen. Could this wake up some swing voters?
