Codes obviously not matching.. but hard to say if it was swapped later or left the factory that way. Seem to see mismatched stock parts more often later in the 50's than earlier, but we see ones pop up from the earliest 1899's. Look at fit and how well it matches, it's a judgement call.
The assembly code should also be on the left side of receiver above the lever, but you have to remove the buttstock to see it.
“ The Savage 99 Pocket Reference”. All models and variations of 1895’s, 1899’s and 99’s covered. Also dates, checkering, engraving.. Find at www.savagelevers.com

I think Randy mentioned this years ago, and I have a couple times. The 1919 250 I got from him is one of my highest conditioned rifles, every thing looks perfect. The butt stock is off a couple hundred from the rest of the rifle. He lettered both numbers. The action letter has all of the standard info. The butt stock letter says, sorry to inform you, but no rifle with that number left the factory. It's always been the consensus that it's all factory.
I'm not greedy, I just want one of each.
