My 1200 Leica won’t work. Nothing shows up when I mash the button. Installed a new battery. Nothing.

It’s too old for warranty. I’ve not dealt with Leica.

Any advice?

Check the battery connections. Especially the ground. It has to press against the battery, it can get bent and doesn't have a firm connection. Carefully bend it out for more pressure. Mine did this several years ago and once fixed has been fine for several more years. Also check for corrosion on the contacts.

Thanks.

Will do, although battery connections seem tight without corrosion.

I had the same issue with a 1200. I sent it to Leica, and they sent me a new 1600. The 1600 is a better unit with more features, so they did me good. I paid to ship, but they covered shipping a new unit.

When you take the battery cover off, you will see a half silver ring at the top of the compartment. This is the contact that needs to be bent for more pressure, (Rangemaster 1200)

Had to call Doug to get the Leica number. Was confusing on their web site.

Got a work order to send it to Jersey. We’ll see what they find and what they say.

I lost a front lense cover off of my rangefinder crawling after an antelope. Sent it to Leica requesting they look it over, replace missing piece, and send me a bill. They just sent me another nib unit, no charge. No gripes about them from me.

Well, my dead 1200 Rangefinder is on the way to Jersey.

They said to use UPS or Fed Ex, as USPS didn't deliver to their door. Not sure where they deliver stuff, but did as I was told.

UPS cost was $18 with $300 ins.

We'll see what they do and I'll report.

Well, Leica contacted me. The Rangemaster 1200 is not repairable. They offered several options. The one I'm going with is a CRF 2400-R, retails for $550, they're letting me have it for $249 shipped.

There were two more offerings, CRF 2800 and CRF 3500, all more expensive and with similar discounts. The 2400-R is all I need; I was doing pretty well with the 1200.

To me, that's not bad, essentially half price and the unit I sent them was at least 12-15 yrs old. Think I got my money's worth.

Anyone using a 2400-R?

I'll give it a going over and report when I get it.

Quick response.

I think that is better than tossing it. I liked they gave me a discontinued 1600 for free, but I guess they ran out of those old units.
Anyway my 1200 was pretty old, and my 1600 is a ton better. I think you will be very happy for 250 bucks.

Agree on the $250. No way could one find a RF of that quality for anywhere near that price.

I'm satisfied. They were prompt, efficient and took care of business.

Big plus for them, IMO.

Their web site could be a bit better. I had to call Doug to get their contact number. But, we know that Doug and company are always there when we need help. Even it they didn't sell it, they'll do what they can.

Those Leica units have a good rep.

Look forward to trying out the new one.

Do these Leica's give you a shooting solution on long range shots?

The fancy ones do. I got the least expensive which will do what I need. I don’t need the angle up or down calculation for mountain shooting or a ballistic calculator. Just distance.

Good to hear I’ve had great luck with the one they gave me replacing my dog damaged unit. I tell everyone that asks their customer service is excellent.

I’m definitely getting old & skeptical. The idea of trusting & depending on technology to do my thinking on a rifle shot with angle calculations seems strange. But using sophisticated laser measuring tools perfectly normal.

Interesting that so many folks like to go integrated within a brand to make the rangefinder & scope compatible for easy calculation. Out to 500 yards my internal computer works just fine & very fast . Past that I need a smart reticle or a dial to hit something.

have a 1200, bought in 2006, have ranged a deer at 1210 yards. Last spring was gifted a Geovid 10x32 from a very generous client. passed the 1200 off to a new long range shooter.
