I went cheap on my first pair. When the volume was up all they did was whistle. I couldn't hear anything. Total junk and no money returned either. I bought my next pair from Hearing Life. Very moderate price, Bluetooth, and they work pretty good. Under $2000.
The always repeated advice is Costco. If you live in Jim Conradville and the nearest Costco is 1,200 lightyears away, look up the nearest independent audiologist. Use a chain hearing aid store as a last resort.
Friend tried some, believe they were $200. A total waste of money. I’ve used hearing aids for 11 years, and am on my third set, at about $6000 a set. Very expensive, but worth it to me.
I did. Back in 2011 I bought a set of "As Seen on TV" at the Walgreens. They were no good. I'm on my second set from Costco now, and satisfied with the devices and service. Once one of them quit while I was in Puerto Vallarta, and the Costco there fixed and cleaned for free, even though nobody could speak English, and I sure as heck can't explain in Spanish. That alone sold me and that is why I recommend them. I got estimates from audiologists for the same features and found then 5-6 grand (3 times the cost of Costco). I would like to find a device based on a bluetooth dongle or some such thing that would allow hearing thru quality headphones, in order to listen to music or for outdoor activity with a much higher degree of fidelity. You aren't going to get hi-fi sound from speakers the size of a pinhead.
Previous threads on these devices reveal that they are junk.

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Give a man a welfare check, a forty ounce malt liquor, a crack pipe, an Obama phone, free health insurance. and some Air Jordan's and he votes Democrat for a lifetime.

That's good to know. I was about to do the $600.00 co-pay and get a pair. I also don't want anything rechargeable. When my mom died she had just gotten a very expensive pair that she never used. I think I might get some batteries and see how they work. At the price of new batteries I have nothing to lose.
Until then I'll just wear a sign that says "HUH?...WHAT?"

I don't know what cheap is? I am on my second pair from Costco, the first ones labeled Kirkland were very good, the sound tubes just became loose after 7 years, the new pair is from Phillips. They were both $1700 oddly enough, I paid $700 with my insurance paying a grand.
I have Costco hearing aids as well and they’re as good as others I tried at double the cost. I would definitely avoid cheap ones. You won’t even hear the sound of your money being flushed down the toilet with them!
