We've had a stray cat hanging out here. My wife starting putting out some feed at night for it which disappears faster than it should. I got curious and put out a trail camera to see just what she's feeding. It's not A cat, it's 5 cats...so far, and 1 is majorly preggo.
I'd do some cat hunting but she'd cut me off for sure. Besides the cats, if she puts the feed out too early in the evening, the magpies get it. This has the makings of an expensive winter. This is going to take a lot of groceries.

Invest in a couple more trail cams and figure out approach and exit routes- - - -just like patterning deer or other critters. Then do your hunting somewhere away from the food plot. A double lung hit works well- - - - -they usually run quite a distance before assuming room temperature.

You have to do something at some point to break the reproductive chain. Trap them all immediately and get them neutered, knock out preggo momma, something, because if you keep feeding them, they'll keep making babies and the cycle will go on. Convince your wife that it's inhumane to allow the family to continue growing.

Two things .....

Buy some coyote urine that trappers use. Soak some cotton balls with it and set them in the high traffic areas. This worked wonders with feral cats for me.

Tylenol is highly toxic to cats. Just crush a tablet up and put it in some food.


Suggest you handle this on the down low since your wife is encouraging these feral cats coming around.

The most fun option would be a dinner plate for them on top of a healthy dose of Tannerite.

Warfarin works on cats as well as rats. Mix a little D-Con into a can of stinky cheap tuna.

Get them fixed, up here if they are strays, its cheap/er, they will greatly limit the rodent population.

My uncle had a dairy farm, with 80ft. silos, which were/are easy to see from the nearest town (about 5 miles away). It seemed like the whole town would dump it's cats at his doorstep. A couple of times a year, he'd round up all the females and knock 'em in the head. He kept the tomcats around for catching rats and other farm vermin, but he got tired of having 35 or 40 cats running around the place. No, he didn't have any rabbits left on the place, and few songbirds, but there were no rats, mice, etc. either.

Where I used to live, I racked up quite an impressive score using anything from .22rf to 12ga. double ought.

No possible way to get away with shooting them here, and the local animal shelter wants $60 to take a stray.
So it's a Havahart trap and a long midnight ride.
