Been there. Nicer than Ft. Polk, or whatever the new PC name may be.

There is some good hunting in Fort Lost in the Woods and the surrounding national forest.

I remember a canoe trip down the Big Piney River at Leonard Wood. Beautiful scenery, both slow and fast water.
Nicer topography than Polk.

Good ol’ Fort Lost in the Woods Misery…
A-2-2 BCT Fall of ‘74
C-1-4 12B AIT early ‘75
The Fall / Winter training was eye opening for this CA native as it was my first experience with real cold weather. It was good training for my next three winters in West Germany.

It was pretty nice in the summer. Wouldn’t cherish a winter gig there.

I took AIT there 9/67 to 10/67. The Army trained me to operate a moter road grader and then assigned me to the Concrete Paver Equipment Operators Course for a year. The CPEOC did not have a road grader so I never really never got to operate one. That winter it got down to -20F and the propane lines to our barracks furnace froze and the heat went out. I discovered that 2 thin army wool blankets don't cut it for sub zero temps.

Sept 1994-Feb 1995 for OSUT then again in 2008 for BNCOC. I just visited several months ago for my nephew's AIT graduation. It sure has changed alot. I have to admit I was alot more comfortable there as a retiree than a new recruit. Anyone know what GEN Leonard Wood was "famous" for?

Famous for...? That's tough, he has quite a resume, MOH recipient, commander of the Rough Riders, and a strong contender for a run at the presidency of the United States and on and on. I give up, what was he famous for?

Combat Engineer school (12B) July and August 1972. Built more than a couple of bridges, set-up more than a couple feet of concertina, laid more than a few mines and had more than a little fun...
Interesting place Missouri is, just more than a little hot !

Hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Apt to change overnight from one to the other.

Son did his and AIT there back in 2018. Seemed to be the same as just about every other base I've been on.
