Hope from the CMP just called me to see if I still wanted a 1911.
Service grade, Field grade and Rack grade available. Given you're now allowed 1 a lifetime, I went Service.
Time from dropping my packet to receiving the call was Last week of July to today. We'll see how long it takes to get to my FFL. Just FYI for others that may have ordered.

Hopefully you get one that is in really great shape beyond just cosmetics.

FFL just teased me with this... Colt slide and frame. Frame serials to 1944. Doubt it saw WWII action but maybe?

I sent my paperwork in for a 2nd one. They changed the rules. Looks like they changed a lot of things since I applied in July. 2 pistols but 1 per year and down to 6 M1's with only 1 per year getting the case.

Well.
Slide has slight rattle but is slick as hell on the rails.
Hammer spur, thumb safety, recoil spring plug and face of the trigger is checkered. Slide stop - no. Must be replacement.
As far as markings, all I see out of "norm" is the "P" below the magazine release and "GHD" on the left side. Guy Drewry at Colt.
7791193 over 85 on the barrel hood. Assume that's when it was replaced? That's a post ww2 contract replacement barrel I believe.
I haven't stripped it down yet, just first look.
I'm damned happy with the 80 year old pistol. Who knows how many rounds or people used it and where/when.

I was the pistol team custodian for my Air National Guard unit. This is what it looked like when I first took over

Was there a Report of Survey on that mess? Everything was there. At first I was sweating the 20 High Standard .22's that were missing, until I opened the nice Oak box in the corner. They were all nicely stored in it.

Some of those old guns shoot pretty well. Here is my 1943 U.S. Army, two magazines of ball ammo at seven yards.
Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.
