I've loaded 45.5 gr of RL-12, using 150 gr Nos. BT's for a favorite deer load in my .308 Browning, BAR Safari for years. I am now running very low on RL-12 and unable to locate this powder ANYWHERE!!! Has it been discontinued? If so, what is being used as a replacement? Looking the the burn rate chart, I would guess IMR-4895 or RL-15. Your comments will be appreciated.

I’ve used Varget for years for bullets in the 150-165 grain range in .308.

Not that it’s a big deal, but you might find the “Big Game” forum in the “Reloading” section down below a more productive place for posts such as this.

I have looked for a "Reloading" section, but the only one I see is "Handgun Reloading". Where, exactly, is this located. Thank you,

I use h-4895 with 150 grain GameKings, but ballistic tips would be great too.

Yep, and that is probably not all of the decent powders. I am a big fan of H4895.

RL-12 = AR-COMP = 4895

quote

Leftie,
The above posters are correct in that we didn't replace Reloder(R) 12 with anything when we discontinued it.
Reloder 12 was essentially Hercules' answer to canister/OEM 4895. We produced it for years at our commercial plant in Kenvil, NJ until we closed that facility in 1996. We produced two lots out of Radford, VA, but the production cost there made the small volume unaffordable. Bofors never produced Reloder 12 for us.
Developed separately, AR-Comp(TM) is essentially the same burn speed as Reloder 12 and the 4895s.
Shoot well,
Paul

It's not grain for grain. with 155 Palmas I like AR-Comp and Varget and 4895

In the reloading section under " Big Game Rifles"

"Aim right, squeeze light"
" Might as well hit what you're aiming at, it kicks the same whether you miss or not"

Right where I would start.

Possibly start and end with TAC.

Back in 1978, I developed my 308 loads with IMR 4064. Used that powder until everybody started lauding Varget. I suspended load testing with RL 15, bought some Varget & 155 Scenars, a match made in heaven. Used Varget for about 5 years when I decided to test TAC and CFE 223. I have switched to TAC & am quite happy with it. The TAC load is quite accurate & interchangeable in both of my Sig Cross rifles, one thermal & the other traditional.

I have tried IMR 4064, 4895 & 3031. I have tried Reloder 7, 12 & 15. I have tried Superformance, Varget & now TAC & CFE 223. The Varget load was most accurate, fastest. The TAC took the checkered flag though it was not the fastest. I am happy with its 2820 fps average & have now taken several critters with it.

How does the 8208 work for you, velocity/bullet weight wise?
