Had my Lyman Great Plains Hunter out today. I ordered a rough rear site from track of the wolf, filed it to fit included the widening the sight notch, regulated the front sight height and applied gold metallic nail polish. When I started with this gun, 4F was unobtainable due to the fire at the goex factory. Last year my buddy gifted me a pound of 4F, so I started using it for priming, and moved my 3F to the main charge. Very happy to have this rifle shooting well. The powder change + using real English flints and larger vent hole have ignition as fast as it’s ever been. I’ve taken a few does with this rifle in the late PA flintlock season, but think I’m hunting the TN MZ season with it this year, can’t wait!

Well played! It would appear to be a solid meat maker!

Love shooting does and hogs with my .54 cal T/C Hawken with real black powder and round balls !
It kills them just as dead as any of my modern rifles, and there’s nothing like the smell of black powder burning and a big ole cloud of smoke! 🤠

Mine is the percussion version, but I’ve always wanted to find it’s twin that’s a flintlock.
Maybe one of these days I’ll luck into one.

Good luck on your upcoming hunt !

Same here with 4F......so.....I ordered up a small ceramic mortar and pestal. Sorted out some screen sieves from various places. And now make my own priming powder from 2F that's faster than anything I've ever used. They want to play supply chain games, then game on.

I always alternate muzzleloaders during hunting season. I do it yearly.
