Picked up an extra hunting tract nearby for hunting rights (we know the out of state owners) and went to look at it this spring. Pretty hardwood bottom SMZ running through a pine tract. The bottom is about 130 yards wide. Found an old stand on a hillside and saw there were once three shooting lanes across the bottom. Hardwood brush had grown up in recent years and taken over. Looking north: Looking west: Looking east: Hog sign:

After several Saturdays, burning a couple gallons of saw-gas, I got it slicked back up. North: West: East:

You put allot of work into this project. I hope you enjoy the hunting. I see the blind is chained to the tree. Easy place for someone to steal it?

I was just using the chain to pull the stand back up the hill, snugging as close to the base of the tree as I could get it. The chain also helped hold it in place while I jacked up the front for the concrete pads. You sometimes have to get a little inventive when working by yourself.

Looks like a pretty good spot that you’ve made a lot better. You need a door or curtain on that rear corner so you don’t silhouette yourself.
Shoot every hog you see if the law allows it. Take some wasp spray until it gets chilly. Those suckers will colonize the interior faster than you can say “OW”. 😳

Good call on that back corner silhouette. Likely needs some doubled over burlap and a few thumbtacks before season opens.

What part of the state are you in to have bears? Near Arkansas? North central, maybe 20 miles south of the Arkansas line.

Bear or pig? My 1st guess is bear but you spoke of pig sign and obviously showed other pig pics.

My 1st guess was bear also, as the neighboring property owner told me he was battling a bear issue, along with the hogs, and the hogs on my stand only seem to only be moving at night right now.
Everybody in my general area seems to be dealing with either bears, hogs, or both. 10 years ago it was maybe 10-20% of what it is now. I had a series of three pics last night from a stand near my house that showed an alert deer, then a bear, and then a hog. When the hogs hit a cycle of showing up semi-regularly at 8-10pm, I go after them.
