I know of guys that used to drive around until they spotted a coyote out in the middle of a field. They would send shooters to the next section road, then release greyhounds to chase the coyote toward the shooters. They used to get a lot of them that way. Still do maybe?

Guys I know with Grey hounds use the dogs as catch dogs. A coyote wouldn't make it to the next road.

Quickest way to lose access around here is to tell the landowner you saw a coyote and didn’t shoot it.

An older film pic, I suppose I need to take some modern digital pics. 700 Classic .17 Remington with a camo stock cover laying in the weeds. Closest kill is 12 paces, longest is 72 paces, I like to call them into my lap.

They need better grey hounds or they need to get closer to the coyote before release. Most grey hounds run on sight only, very few will scent trail if they lose sight.

Laws aren't preventative measures. In other words, more laws won't prevent gun crime from happening.

Most agricultural fields here are flat and to my understanding, the hunts are/were done in the winter with snow on the ground. Coyotes stick out like a sore thumb.

Utah used to have the Gov shooters fly in fixed wing & kill them SOB's

Remember seeing them less than 10 yrs ago flying local

Now...they decided the $50/head bounty to the Utah sportsman works better

Either way.......coyote......target of opportunity

Yes....they make you jump hoops for the $50

It’s a coyote.
And you don’t think that coyote ever chased down anything to exhaustion and killed it?

?

It’s a coyote. I’ve let them drag their guts over a snowdrift without pursuing.

My point was it’s a coyote. Who cares if it was tired lol

EVERYTHING deserves a quick and timely death. You're taught that as a child. Least I was.

Coyote is just trying to make a living. I love smokin' them, but I won't watch one suffer.

Ever shoot gophers or prairie dogs? Groundhogs?

I too strive for a fast humane kill, but I dont lose sleep over a coyote I can’t recover, or a gopher that crawls back in its hole. If I hit a dog too far back and he takes off for the next county dragging his guts over the drifts I’m not chasing him down. Sorry not sorry.

Reading the comments.

Just assuming that many of you guys oppose trapping and aerial population control measures..🤔

I grew up hunting, fishing and trapping.
I have friends that were on the extreme fringe of successful in all 3 endeavors..

Having so many opportunities taken away from me in California it always kind of shocks me to see so called "conservative hunters" being vocal against any legal and biologically sustainable form of hunting, trapping or wildlife regulation issues.
It gets to be such an emotional boondoggle for so many.

Few things man does compares to the brutality of mother nature.

Some of you must have been touched by Walt Disney.

Nature left alone is harsh. I will also say that any rancher that finds out you didn’t kill a coyote when you had an opportunity, may be even more harsh…

You should have a spade with you and dig the wounded gopher up and finish him!

Otherwise you are just being a cruel bastard.
