Giardia?

Pffft! Wadda bunch of weenies……. grin

Three years in West Africa Yo, sometimes obliged to drink muddy stream water straight.

Flagyl? A nasty stuff, and you ain’t supposed to drink while on it, a deal breaker for many. Depending on your African village you’ll only get it back the following week anyhoo…

What happens is you and your giardia reach an understanding: If the yellow bubbly diarrhea only happens occasionally, you will take those little guys drinking with you on weekends and not nuke em with flagyl.

Whatever happens, a handful of Paregoric (powdered clay mixed with opium) is your friend.

On the scale of seriousness, Giardia is about like the common cold.

Hepatitis C and Schistosomiasis? Now you’re talking serious.

Nah, if it doesn't kill you, it just hurts so bad you wish it had killed you.

Have drank an awful lot of beaver infested water. Don't think I've ever had it! If I did it was pretty mild. Don't know why I haven't had it!

Me too- but there is a range of "getting it". I suspect I've had it more than once. Mild case may only last a day or two of sheets and stomach upset. The person doesn't even realize they have had giardia.

4-5 drops of iodine/qt, then wait an hr. before drinking will prevent water-borne illness.

I hope u heal up quick, but I'm afraid you'll need a prescription.

I2 and bleach do almost nothing to encysted organisms like giardia and cryptosporidium.

Good chart there:

ht tps://www.cdc.gov/healthywater/pdf/drinking/Backcountry_Water_Treatment-508.pdf

It’s a .pdf link. Don’t know why it shows up as a video.

Remove the space in the https part of the link; C&P.

Maybe feed them a little whiskey first to trick them into thinking they're already in friendly "territory" and then, Shazam them with Clorox

If you've got whiskey, the only thing you need water for is coffee (which gets boiled) and washing dishes. I'd hate to be treating bacteria with my precious whiskey.

A new drink, the “Alaskan”, whiskey with a Clorox chaser.

First don't get it, lol. I filter water and then put iodine tablets into it before drinking it. Second, Flagyl is the answer. I've had giardi (cause I was stupid, didn't drink the crystal clear lake water but dipped my toothbrush into it) and amoebic dysentery (MidEast). In both cases flagyl did the trick.
