This long tang Winchester 71 deluxe was waiting for me when I got home today. It’s wearing the wrong rear sight and missing the front sight hood and the super grade swivels, but I have original spares of each so she’ll be back to her “factory” appearance before the weekend is over. Decent condition overall, and bought for about the price of 87 of the pumpkins it sits on.

You paid that much for a pumpkin?!? Beautiful rifle BTW $15 … seemed like highway robbery - but the kids like carving them, and I don’t have a green thumb🤷🏻♂️ It was made 86 years ago this month. Not to bad considering!

Very nice! I just had a guy here that got a box of 348's from me to "shoot a deer with Grandpa's rifle" AND I bought a bunch of new old stock Winchester wood today and there was something in there for a 71. I believe a may even have a 71 Deluxe forearm in my junk just in case I ever need one.
I am always looking for factory wood stocks!

Great find. To my eyes they are easily the best looking lever rifle ever made.

Good on you for setting up the fella who wants to use grandpas gun. That’s what got me into 71’s… Gramp!

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I've only ever owned standard grade Winchester M/64 and M/71 but I agree that both were the greatest lever action rifles that Winchester ever made. The most unusual Winchester lever action that I ever owned was a R.F. Sedgley custom M/1895 in .30-06, it started out life as a SRC.

Jsgwoodsman: That is indeed a cool rig and rather handsome to boot - as others have suggested. I used to collect and trade in Model 71's but decided to turn them into Model 70's about three decades ago - wish I would have kept a couple of those Model 71 Deluxes I had. And for those interjecting about their picks for the most handsome lever action Rifle ever made I nominate the Model 71's really little brother the Winchester Model 65 in 218 Bee! Hold into the wind VarmintGuy Thanks VG, I like 65s also but am a sucker for the checkered (special/deluxe) variations… and the deluxe 65’s have a price point that I’ve been unwilling to pay. But I’m always on the lookout!

That put a smile on my face.
