Haven't seen too much about the SE AK moose on the forum so I figured I'd make a post on a hunt I just came back from. Waited and waited for a weather window this season. Finally got one I felt good about where we would have to endure just one big storm. Weather has sucked this fall. Did my normal 100+ mile boat ride with the guy I hunt with. Stuck the big anchor and hiked into our little spot and set up our spike camp. The evening we got there a bull came in hot to the call. Pretty cool to hear them grunting their way in. We put the spotter on him and he was legal 3x1 brow tine. Ended up being 47" which is pretty good for a Stikine bull. Killed him, scoped the [bleep] out of myself in the process which was fun. We headlamp butchered it up so it was ready for packing at first light. Spent the next few days packing it out. 2nd day of packing sucked balls as it dumped 3 inches of rain and was cold AF. Heater in the boat saved my butt as I was seriously chilled after doing 8 miles in that weather. Got the quarters/meat out in 3 trips, and another trip for camp. Last night forecasted for 60+ mph winds. Boat stayed stuck and the anchorage was solid. The complexity of storms, boats, and keeping the boat off the beach can add some stress to the trip. Came home in decent seas. Didn't take hardly any pics. Everything was wet including my phone. Will edit with a pic

Well done!

Glad you’re safe and punched a tag and brought meat home. You live and recreate in an epic part of the world and appreciate you sharing the adventure!

Looking forward to your boat based goat hunt trip report!

Yeah that’s going to take some good weather to head up that direction. See if it happens this year.

Congrats, the smile says it all. Definitely looks wet. Rain/snow can make things pretty damn miserable, especially if you can’t warm up and dry off!

Spoke to a friend in Fairbanks and he said weather was terrible there too, think he only got to hunt a day or two.

Nice moose for a registration permit (I presume this) Joel. 6.5 Creed? laugh

October storms can be real doozies. I've put my boat up on the beach on deer hunting trips to avoid anchor slip. That same storm took a crabbing boat going from Petersburg to Seymour canal for a king crab opener.

You got a tree stand you call from?

300 wm. Was laying under low tree branches trying not to go in the water. I knew I was going to scope myself, but I did it anyways. It was worth it. It came in faster than expected. Registration permit.

Yeah that storm was fierce.

Great to see that you got to go. I did a goat hunt in August. It was shirt sleeves and sunny skies. Probably never happen that way again

90 ish. These Canadian invaders are much smaller than the Yukon bulls. Fronts were about 70 ish.

I put the scale on the deck of the boat so I am not 100% sure its accurate.

Well done Joel!

The only thing harder than packing a moose for days is babysitting a boat in that country that time of the year. Doing both is impressive..
