Didn't most American Indians stop using stone arrow heads in the 16th century? Iron arrowheads were a huge trade item, knives and axes too. Old pots and other scrap metal would be reworked into arrowheads. For one thing iron weren’t fragile like obsidian/flint. I say Congrats to the young man. He obviously spent a lot of time, effort and energy making his equipment. Not to mention the amount of research it took to be able to make his gear successfully.
That's dedication. And to end the story taking a 300lb Black Bear with his Hand made Bow and arrow is quite an accomplishment, Good job. Cool story. This ^^ As for deflave ? He is our burden. Just like Big Stick and Tarqueen. We must endure with the hope they will see the light. They keep our perspectives in check. IN their own special way, they keep us on the path to enlightenment. However, debate raged on for generations between those who embraced the new technology and those who preferred the reliable performance they had come to appreciate from their expertly knapped flint and obsidian. Failures of steel heads which bent when they hit bone were gleefully recounted by detractors who posted about these failures*. Regarding this story, there are several aspects not touched upon: Did he use natural bait (preferably using ingredients he harvested himself. ie, a carp caught with a handwoven net). Did he kill the copperheads, the skins of which he used for backing on his bow? There has to be more to the story. GD *Posting, in those days, had a different meaning than today. There were tree stumps or "posts" scattered far and wide; participants would scratch their message on these posts, to be read by followers of the "sinew" (a connective tissue). But he hunted over bait... The article claims there are only 1300 bear in the state as of 2020. With those numbers a bait pile is not a guarantee to a bear harvest. Articles and Government statistics, think about that. Who else tracks Oklahomas bear population to compare notes?
