Lucked into what seems like a rare bird today - Remington 700 classic chambered in 6MM. It was likely produced in 1979-1980 before the classic series really took off. The metal is virtually flawless, the wood shows some character but overall it appears to be a solid rifle. Will get it scope up and load up a few rounds before deer season.

Great find!!! Both my .243 and 6mm are extremely accurate. And both were made in the late 1970’s before the 700 Classic became a Limited Run series.

I think Grice sold these in 79-80. Don't think they were in Remington's Classic Series.

That is a great score. I really like the 6mm Rem.

Could be a Classic - 6mm was one of the chamberings in the first version of the Classics, before the single cartridge per year version.
Good looking rifle either way.

Were it S/S,the stock a laminate, chambered 6 Kreed and twisted 7"...you'd have something. The 6mm Rem is THE definition of a S/A Goat Fhuqk. Hint.................

Good looking rifle either way.

Thanks for straightening me out!

It seems there are the early M-700 Classics, and then there were the later M-700 Limited Edition (LE) Classics - and that distinction is what is missed by many, adding to the confusion about the model.

The "regular production" 700 Classic debuted in 1978 in 7 calibers: .22-250,.243, 6mm,.270,.280, 7mm Mag, & .30-06 - and was just another model, ala ADL/BDL/Mountain/etc.
Of these, only the .280 was later made in the Limited Edition Classic.

The LE Classic series was started in 1981, and ran for 25 years as a one-caliber-per-year model, but it turns out that some rifles were shipped both before and after the year of their production - again, adding confusion.
example: 1982 - Besides the .257R, that year's caliber, one 7x57was also shipped; in 1987, besides the .338 Win Mag, there were three .35 Whelan's (1988) shipped, plus 42 more in 1989.

Nice rifle and rare find. I have one made in ‘79 if I remember correctly. Mine still has the factory iron sights mounted. You would be surprised how many people will tell you that Remington never made that rifle but indeed they did.
Enjoy it! I may have to dig mine out and shoot it some!
Take care,
Rick

Thanks for the nice comments. Seems to be a sound rifle. Will load up some rounds and shoot it this weekend. Hopefully it groups good enough for deer season. Was thinking of using it on opening weekend, but for some reason my trusty 7x57R keeps calling my name.
