I have a friend who wants to trade me a stainless Pro Hunter in 7mm Rem Mag for my 700 SPS in 6.5 Creedmoor. I have a Pro Hunter FX muzzleloader that I like, but it’s not convertible to centerfire.

Is it worth going down the Encore rabbit hole? Especially with them out of production? Or maybe just trade and flip it?

I love mine. The original models though had an odd angle to the butt of the stock, which for me, amplified recoil. The flex tech stock fits me much better, though the rubber at the top of the comb is a cheek grabber where a bit of slide would be preferable. Also the "tennis shoe" styling of the flex tech furniture is an eye sore, but some folks like that sort of look.

Think.
It's not illegal, yet.

I have an Encore in 204 Ruger. It's become my 'loaner' prairie dog gun. I originally bought it with the idea that I would have one frame and a variety of barrels to match caliber with game species. Didn't work out that way. Encores have some passionate followers, but I don't think I'm one of them. Truth be told, I discovered I don't need that many different calibers. Knowing then what I know now, I probably would have passed on the Encore. It does like 34 gr. Winchester 204 ammo, though....

I like the Encores; they fit me well and are comfortable to shoot (up to 30-06, at least). It sounds like a good trade to me if you need or want a 7mm mag.

I just removed me muzzleloader barrel and replaced it with my MGM 6.5 creed barrel now that rifle season is open. Not my primary rifle but could be. For me it’s a good doe killer/truck gun/loaner rifle

Trade is done. I will look to see if there are any muzzleloader barrels to be found. If I can find one, I might get rid of my FX. If not, I’ll keep the FX and get rid of the one I just got.

I would keep the one you just got, and sell the FX. I did the same thing with mine a couple of years ago. Sold my FX. I got a smokeless powder ML barrel and a 7mm 08 barrel for my stainless Pro Hunter. I really like the Stainless gun, It covers a lot of bases and shoots good. barrels are readily available at fair prices here in the classifieds. The Pro Hunter is also a great starter gun for kids, grandkids, or the wife.
