What are the ranchers here getting per pound, live weight? I was quoted 2.25 plus processing.

What does the beef weigh live?

Was it grain fed?

Lots of those 650 pound weight calves sell for about that as "Grass Fed Natural Beef", but in reality, they are toughern chit. No fat. No marbling.

Is it harder to get them to weight with the heat we had this summer? And if so is there any effect on the meat?

Feed them good in your corrals for 90 days on sweet feed, I lock steer up at 8 or 9 weight, to butcher about 11 or 12, marbling is wonderful.

Can you use the back yard if you don't happen to have corrals?

Happy Neighbors! laugh

I agree with feeding like that though. Limited movement and plenty of feed.

We've been selling ours for $3.25 per pound (hanging weight). I think that comes to 1.95 live weight.

'bout $8 a lb for burger in the market. We eat chicken and pork mostly. Ain't killed no game in 2 years, dammit! I need to go looking for a late-fall blackie.

Thinking of signing up to take care of road kill moose. 'spozed to donate it all, but, hey, there should be some "unsalvageable meat ".

Right?

We can buy, alright. But prefer wild.

I’d rather have Oryx and Elk too but can’t draw a damn tag anymore now that I’m

650lb calves contracted and scaled/loaded from the ranch 2.72 per pound… powder river country. Heard of some at 2.75, hear of some just lower.

Makes putting 90 days of barley into them a money losing proposition.

Live cattle were $1.86 a pond today so selling one at $2.25 sounds fair. Hope it has good flavor and not tough. That would be a lot of beef to chew through if it isn't a good one.

You will get into a tax bind!

Hahaha!

Probably have to buy a new bunk of ties to appease your accountant.
