I was a teenager in 1978 I remember the Police coming out then . I knew Southern Rock ,,Punk Rock, Acid Rock ,Hard Rock , Soft Rock ,Psychedelic Rock ect..ect..ect... but never heard of SKA Rock ,what is it?
Mid/late 60's Jamaican popular music based on American R&B, with the signature upbeat guitar stroke throughout. Pre-reggae. The Police were never Ska. Before their first album they released a 7" that was, if anything, closer to punk. Many of the Brit bands at that time were influenced by Jamaican music.. The Clash, even The Stranglers..
Sometimes called Skate Kore too for whatever reason. Early No Doubt had some very ska sounding riffs as well IMO. For me ska is found a lot in the guitar riffs - prevalent in this video.
