We are at war with Iran, Russia, and China right now. It hasn't become hot yet, but it's headed in that direction. We have left so many allies and supporters out to dry since Vietnam that few if any governments and populations trust us.

While I do not dispute the premise of the post, inattention to details such as this statement from your article: "In reality, the original Pentagon statement does make sense. Why would the Carney be deployed through the Suez Canal, being very exposed to being cut off, not to mention reduce the in close capabilities to protect Strike Group asstes (the SM-2 has a range of ~ 90NM) and secondly, nobody uses the term "battleship" anymore and much less to describe a Destroyer.
