I do. It's a Majestic. It was my great grandmother's.

I suspect it's at least 100 years old.

This is what we recently installed, and it is awesome. I am never going back to electric again.

Holy cow!

That's way more affordable than I would have guessed.

What's the oblong burner in the center designed to do?

Normally they come with a griddle that can fit on that burner.

Just what you've heard. Also near instant temp drop from boil to simmer or less while not waiting for element temp to drop.

Don't get me started on those worthless smooth top electric stoves.

We did electric stove shopping this week. Home Depot has a GE exposed elements for $500, W/ self cleaning oven $550. Glass tops give you another $100 to $150 increase. Convection fan in the oven is another $50 increase. Beware glass tops with kids cooking and using cast iron.

Momma was buying a new stove for younger daughter. She bough the glass top, self cleaning, convection oven. LOL

Jim, your current stove sounds like it might be getting dangerous. I'd be looking for a new propane unit. No venting necessary. I doubt that you could even find a gas stove that has pilots. Everything is ignitor now. A quick search on Home Depot site shows 6 gas stoves priced between $500 and $650. Fancy stoves will cost a lot more, but, in my opinion, they don't work any better and there is more that can go wrong. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Is a gas stove-oven recommended if you are on propane?

My Aunt was in a 12x60 mobile home about 1979. She had furnace problems during the middle of winter. So she opened and lit the oven, and a couple burners on her LP stove.

A couple days later she was begging me to come fix the leaky toilet. Sure 'nough, the bathroom floor was flooded, buit I could find no plumbing issues. I did find water drops beading up on the porcelain surfaces and running down onto the floor.

She had fully saturated the home with water vapor from the gas exhaust. She thought I was nuts when I explained her issue. My Grand Dad paid for a furnace tech, and her plumbing issues all went away.

We've got 3 double ovens to choose from if you want to take a drive down to TX.

Do your research if you are going to buy an electric one.
I needed one for an apartment of mine, and they now have sensors on the burners that keep it shut off unless there is weight on the coil.
Salesman said they have a high failure rate, and trouble getting parts.
May be a NewYorkistan thing, but at least review it.

Do check stores for dent/scratched or discontinued demo unit, at times sold for significant discount. We got a GE stainless top which retailed for $1400 for $550 from Best Buy, had a dent on right rear, which in our kitchen is next to a cabinet, can't be seen. everything works wonderfully well, especially the oven.

Griddle, small pan, pretty much anything you need. I've had all 5 burners on at once with a large cast iron square pan and used that SOB as a hibachi.
