I guess that can’t only happen in hand loads. I was in the local feed store which carries ammo today. I saw a recall notice posted for Remington ammunition. It said that .300 Win Mag 180 grn core-lockt ammo had possibly been loaded with the wrong propellant. Dang, can’t say I remember seeing that before.

That picture reminds me of a Ruger SBH 44 Mag that was stolen from me in the early 80's, complete with the vent rib!

12.8 gr of some unknown powder, in a 44 mag case. A double charge is very possible.

A long time ago I had a misfire of a rifle cartridge at the range. Got home, pulled the bullet and found out that the cartridge was empty. I realized that if I could add no powder to a case that I could also double charge a case. Since then I always check every case to make sure the powder level is where it should be before seating bullets.

makes a good argument against those weird pistols that fire from the bottom chamber instead of the top....if you are going to double dose I guess.

It happens. Shooting is inherently somewhat dangerous since we have what we hope is a controlled explosion every time we fire a shot.

It’s not just handloaders either, I had a rather extensive round of surgeries following a rifle blowing up with a factory cartridge that was improperly loaded.

Safety glasses of some type are a good idea.👍
