Been after these hole digging so and so's for a month. Wife saw them before dark today. The way they lay in the pic is where they died.

Used what I think will be my new leave out "House 22" for varmints a Henry 22. Need to put a better scope on it though.

Those are some weird critters for sure, and fort a long time I've meant to read up on them a little just to know what in hell they are.

They turn out to be placental mammals, which I thought they were for some reason (because I heard that 50 years ago?? Maybe). There are many different species, though, and I never knew that.

The wiki article stated that they often jump straight up when surprised and I can attest to that...and the little suckers can MOVE when frightened. They also can emit an odd vocalization when frightened. I have heard that one time when screwing with them.

The damn things dig in my yard to---such as it is---but I don't kill them for it. There are just too many of them to ever reduce the damage (which I see as insignificant) or their numbers. I have killed a couple but I won't anymore. Since my yard is basically native pasture I just don't give a damn.

RiverRider, My yards is on a pretty good slope and their digging causes washes. Plus I have bad ankles and have stepped in their holes at night or when I'm not paying enough attention and re-injure my ankle.

Of course their digging is nothing compared to feral Hogs.

I'm not at all criticizing you for it. When they cause you problems as you describe then you're perfectly justified in trying to do something about it. Fortunately for me, what they do is of little to no consequence in my world.

OTOH, I'll shoot hogs just for bein' hogs.

Some folks like to straddle them if they see one on the road but their habit of doing a jack-in- the-box means they’ll jump and knock your oil pan off or other damage underneath.

I've been shooting the bastards all summer here on the coast. I don't remember them ever being this thick. I'll need to restock .410 shells soon.

When I was a senior in High School 79-80 one of my friends in a 455 Formula ran over one while driving down the Highway at over 60. The 'dillo hit his auto transmission linkage putting the car in reverse while going over 60. Instant Transmission failure.

I did notice some holes they dug in a fire ant mound the other day. I've never seen that before.
