I was bored this summer, looked for ways to extend my deer season, and a muzzleloader was the choice. My buddy pointed me to muzzle-loaders.com, so I poked around on the site for a while, extracted a ton of info I was hoping to find and watched about 10 of their videos. After researching a few rifles I was interested in, I picked up a CVA Optima V2, some Barnes and Hornady bullets and cleaning supplies. Definitely heading back when I need more stuff. I spent the next few outings at the range learning the ins and outs of this whole muzzleloader thing, threw 20ish rounds down range, and settled on two white hots behind the Barnes giving about a 1" group at 100. The next few hunting weekends were rain after rain after rain.....but in the last 70 minutes, I was able t0 put a do down at a looooong 18 yards. After she was hit, she bounded twice and was done. Couldn't be happier with my first go at this black powder thing. Can't wait to use it again in a few months.

That is excellent. Muzzleloaders offer and new aspect to modern rifles. With today's models, they are really accurate. You picked a good one.

That is awesome. I just broke out my old TC Renegade this year and shot a couple does. Thought I had better do it before my eyes get any worse and cannot see those iron sights anymore.

Nice work! Just bought the SS version myself. Pretty good gun for the price.

Nice job! I pretty much did the same thing about 5 years ago to extend my hunting opportunities. I ended up with a CVA Wolf, 250 gr. Hornady SST's, and 2 50-gr. Pyrodex pellets. I get 1 - 1.5 inch groups at 100 yards. I have killed 2 deer with this combination, including a decent 8 pt. buck last season. My state, Kentucky, has an early 2-day muzzleloader season that is before the regular modern gun season. We also have a late muzzleloader season that runs 9 days in December. I have killed one in the early season and one in the late season.
If ifs and buts were like candy and nuts, it would be Christmas every day.
