have a 10 yr, old 11-87 20 ga auto. that has misfired on average 1-2 rounds per box, since new, steel loads cause, gifted new to grandson Duck for hunting mostly. Primers appear to be hit fairly well. had forgot about it as he married and hadnt hunted with me for couple yrs, we went out this season and it did it again, which refreshed my memory. seems like we tried differend brands back in the day and that made no difference, Kent 3" mostly, he said others did it rarely also? Guesses, has anyone had similar, thanx.

If just light primer strikes, try replacing the hammer spring.

If the bolt is not fully going in battery, could be from a myriad of reasons.

Next time it doesn't light off a primer, reach up to the bolt handle and look as you gently press forward to ensure that it was locked up.

Bolt buffer. Firing pin has some drag on it. Replace and move on.

Remove the trigger group. Test the hammer for freedom of movement across its travel. Check the hammer spring strength. If those check out, examine the firing pin and spring.
