I would prefer that the first man the police see when they roll up on a "shots fired" call is not a half-naked white man in his underwear standing in the front yard with a Glock in his hand, yelling "He's over there!"

No reason to.go out the door. If some one is coming in I can have a firearm in my hand in a second or two.

Grabbing a gun and rushing out the front door seems a good way to get ambushed.
I am more likely to stay inside until I know whats outside.
A suppressed 12.5 AR w/clipon flip thermal and WML brings a lot of advantages.

Fugg that. I’m grabbing the tinned fish and heading for the safe room. Pop on a movie, hang out with the wife or mistress.

A long dark driveway and driveway alarms . Will alert you.
Of course some wild critters set the alarms off too, keeps one on his toes.

Since you don't have a clue what's happening out there, sounds like a good way to get blown away in your own doorway.

First one was in daylight. Three houses down one of one guy’s boxers had an elderly guy across the street backed up against the wall of his house, looked like the dog was about to bite the guy. I walked up all still-legged and tall, yelling at the dog, all the while wishing I had brung a weapon, anything 🙂 The bluff worked, the dog jumped back over its fence, old guy went inside.
Second one at night, I’m sitting out on the front porch, light out for privacy as usual. Loud argument breaks out on the street maybe 40 feet from my front door. The genial thirty-something sometimes-employed alcoholic from across the street who I had known for about 20 years is being loudly confronted by a shaved head gangster-type next to that guy’s car. Shaved head guy’s girlfriend is standing next to him, also PO’d at my friend.
I have no idea what it was about, didn’t sound like owed money or drugs, more like personal.
Shaved head guy says several times he’s gonna shoot my friend. He certainly looks like a guy who makes his money illegally and would shoot people.
Just then my friend who sounded scared, tho it’s so dark you can’t see me on the porch, starts calling out my name. “Who TF is Mike?” asks the guy.
Shaved- head looked like one of those people where you’re better off if they never are aware you even exist, By this time I was on my feet in deep shadow looking at shaved head from his right side from thirty feet away. He never saw me.
I really, really did not want to meet shaved head under any circumstance, much less shoot him. In fact I can’t say for sure I would have.
Fortunately, a few insults and threats later, shaved head and company got back in his car and drove off. Maybe two years later my friend is still alive and un-shot.

Well, first I need to start a thread and discuss what weapon(s) I should grab, then I need to use my French press to get a cup of java to start up, then find my Stormy Kromer hat just in case the weather might turn, then start a thread here on the preferred method of making a tactical exit outside........

I’m not leaving my house for any of the above mentioned emergencies. And, how can we fit out the doorway with the couch firmly entrenched in our [bleep]?

Reach over and grab the shotgun next to the door. Going out is another issue!

Reach over and grab the shotgun next to the door. Going out is another issue! Yep. Grab the Benelli M2, relocate to the bedroom at the end of the hall. Only one way in. Anyone who enters the hall is in a kill zone. A Benelli M2 with a magazine full of high velocity 00 is a hand held Claymore mine.

I thought everyone kept a gun by the front door?
mine ain't for me going out the door though
I dunno, I'm guessing everyone at some point has stood out in their yard in their boxers with a 1911 in their hand trying to decide if the neighbor was getting killed or just mad about dinner

Nearest neighbor is half a mile up the road and better armed than I am, most of the time. He's my son, and I taught him to shoot 40+ years ago. If he needs help, I'm one phone call away.
