I’m new to the 257 Boberts. I’ve loaded the 100 TTSX with 44.5 grains of IMR 4350. They shot well out of a 700 Classic I picked up. I’m eager to shoot something with it. It was very pleasant to shoot.

I've been using the 110 grain NAB @ 2,984 fps since forever, and the 115 grain NPT @ 2,930 fps also groups very well.

Current plan is to switch to the 110 grain ELD-X since I only use the cartridge these days on Pronghorn and wheat field Muleys.

My .257 is also a Remington 700 Classic. I really like that rifle.

The late Ken Waters in his book Pet Loads has been a source of great load info for me over the years.

I have a Montana that really likes 100gr Hot-Cors over 46.0 IMR 4350, right at 3000 fps. Had it out to the range Friday, to check final zero before NY deer season, and it shot .498 again.

I spent some time with my rangefinder yesterday and found my longest shot possible will be 300 meters. Just goes to show how bad I am at estimating yardage.
I found that Target Sports USA had some super performance 117 SST ammo in stock and ordered a case for now. Will wait till next year to load some TTXS.

In my new 7x57 one of the bullets I'm going to try is the Hammer 101grn HH, ala 257 Bob! I look at it as a coyote/antelope/deer bullet. Back in '83 I traded a nice 6" Colt Python to a Gun Store, Vidor Tx (Klan Kountry)(No. I'm not Klan :)) I traded even, a new Mod 700 Classic .257 Roberts. I shot it some with the Speer 100 BT, then I got enamored with the 257 Ackley. Had it reamed out, fire formed the mild Remington 117 factory loads. I had read where Rick Jamison like the Hornady 120 HP for deer in his 25-06. I got some, worked up a load with the Hornady 120HP seated out pretty far with a case full (47? 49? Don't remember, it was right out of P.O.s' book) of IMR 4350. Never clocked it, but it made the yellow guts fly from crows, both near and far, and shot lengthwise on a SE Texas buck at 60yds! One of the first of my rifles that got sacrificed (sold) for School Clothes, etc. for the 9yr old Twin Girls, ha.

I bought 4 boxes of that load for my Ruger 77 mainly just for brass. Good thing as it gave me groups of 4-5 inches. At the time I was so desperate for brass I pulled the bullets and loaded the brass with 4350 and initially the 100gr. Ballistic Tip.

Interesting.

In the rifle sold to catdoctor (a first-year production Model 70 Winchester) that ammo averaged .97" at 100 yards.

That Ruger UL shot poorly till I fully bedded the barrel. Now it shoots everything nicely and I don't have any of the factory SST ammo to test. It might shoot it great now.

Based on misfires with Hornady .30-06 ammo (brass headspace) and groups the size of 00 buck from a 12 gauge at 100 yards for Hornady 7mm Weatherby magnum ammo, I have permanently flagged Hornady rifle ammo as “ I’ll Pass”. IDGAF is they are giving it away.

My 257, a custom small ring Mexican Mauser, loves (LOVES) 100 grain Partitions. IMR-4350 is her preferred powder

I can't use the Hornady 257 in my Ruger MKII. The bolt will not hold them. Once you begin to extract the slide out and lay there. The base is too small. Conversely, the bolt will hold Remington and Winchester with no problems.

That's interesting. I have not only Hornady but Winchester and Remington .257 Roberts brass--partly due to owning several .257s. I just miked the bases of all three, and all three vary from .469" to .470". You might want to take the issue of your brass up with Hornady.

Yes, I sent them a message today. I tried Hornady 250 Savage ammo with the bolt removed, and it snaps inplace and the bolt holds it, but not the 257 ammo.
