The 1980s The Thing is also free there. Both are highly recommended. If you've never scene either, watch the 2011 one first, because it's actually a prequel to the 1980s version.

Oh, and, unlike Prime and Netflix, there's no monthly fee for Tubi. You just sign up and watch.

If you watch with your Fire Stick, though, you have to watch commercials. But for some reason, if you watch it with your MacBook, there are no commercials. I use my MacBook Air, and link it to my big screen TV via AppleTV via Bluetooth, and watch it there, commercial free.

I think they're both about equal, but the special effects are obviously far superior in the 2011 version.

Was the 80s version the one where Ed Asner's head was on the floor and sprouted legs and started walking around? I thought that was pretty cool---I mean the part about Ed Asner's head laying on the floor.

Well, there was a scene like that, but Ed Asner was never in the movie.

Huh. That's weird...I can't imagine why I remember it as Ed Asner's head, but that's what my mind's eye sees.

I could swear Asner was in some movie or another of that type, but I can't come up with a thing.

I'm pretty sure I saw the 80s version...had to be. It was pretty good, I thought, for a movie of its type.

Another good one was Dreamscape. I'm thinking it was Sean Penn who got smoked in that one. If it wasn't, I guess I tend to fill in missing memories by substituting "actors" who I detest in villainous roles.

No, I don't know that you can say that that's special effects in 2011 was better than Carpenters release.... they really had to work at that stuff back in the early 80s .I've got one of the DVDs that had John and other people in the movie -actually commenting on how they did the stuff. I am not a big fan of the 2011..

CGI I think it's called.

especially in the end when they kind of put the face head on the monster .

My thing doesn't come out anymore. frown

I like Tubi. They have a good mix of new and old TV and movies, one of the best streamers, IMO.

I was warned, but I am here anyway.

I'll take the practical effects of the 1980 movie over the CGI of the 2011 movie. The 1980 movie is also the better movie IMHO.

Could you retype all that, please? Sounds like you're trying to say something, but can't really figure it out.

That's right, but it only very loosely followed the original short story (well worth reading, by the way). Marshal Dillon played the title role. The 1951 version was still an excellent sci fi movie for its time.
