Anyone use Double Tap ammo? The published ballistics are impressive, especially their 200 grain .40 S&W & .230 grain .45 ACP loadings. I'd imagine both of these would penetrate the hell out of black bear. But what happens over a chrono? Also, are they reliable?

I have shot them out of my Sig 220 (45 230 gr Gold Dot at published 1010 FPS). You know it when it goes off, but no worse than most +p 45 loads out there. They were extremely accurate out of my gun, and very clean burning, probably the cleanest burning ammo I have ever fired.

I think MontanaMarine shoots them in a 10MM.

Published velocities are accurate. Minimal flash in 9mm and .40, have not played with the .45 stuff. IIRC he uses the slower Ramshot and accurate arms powders, would not want to use it in a short barrel...

varmintsinc,
Thanks so much. I keep looking at Double Tap's .45 ACP 230 grain SWCFP @ 1010 FPS. To me, it might just be the ultimate for tail use. I am sure it'll penetrate the hell out of a black bear. More importantly, the bullet design should be about perfect for breaking shoulder bone.
I think I'm going to buy a couple boxes and try them. If they chrono as advertised and feed reliably, I'll have my perfect trail gun.
Merry Christmas,
Mando

230s at over 10k/fps is crisp. sigs are excellent .45 platforms, if the ergos strike you right, better (shudder) than a 1911. that said, i have 8 1911s, and 1 sig. harumph.
very good information. thank you all. merry christmas to everyone.

I haven't gotten to try the Double Tap ammo yet.....but it is on the way. I too was intrigued by the published ballistics for the .45ACP as well as the heavy bullet loads for the 10mm. I have no use for light bullets in any caliber and the Double Tap product line seems to have a number of loads aimed at hunting ammo......my preferance.
Soon as I get to shoot it.....I'll report on the velosity and accuracy compared to what the company claims.

230s at over 10k/fps is crisp. 10K = 10,000 That's pretty fast for a .45 pistol.
By the way, in case you missed it, Jeremiah was a bullfrog.
