This book was released October 17, 2023. It's very entertaining and quick read because Grisham draws the reader into the story so well. At 334 pages it a good size but the story is fast and flows well. In the story the protagonist is Mitch McDeere, a lawyer you may have first been exposed to in the book or the movie "The Firm". Here it's 15 years later and Mitch is now in the world's largest law firm with offices all over the world. The firm is representing a Turkish construction company in a lawsuit against Libya and Gaddafi. Gaddafi wanted a bridge built in the desert and wanted to flow water under it with the bridge providing first 6 lanes of traffic and then was downsized to 4 lanes. It was madness but normal for the man. The cost was 1 billion dollars. And Libya paid only 600 million so they were being sued for 400 million plus interest. Mitch is asked to take over the lawsuit and does. As part of it he is to travel to the bridge to look at it and to also go along is an attorney from London who is the daughter of one of the partners and is very competent. They are acquainted and have dinner in the hotel before leaving the next morning. Mitch gets a very bad case of food poisoning and can't go and the other attorney decides to go. She is kidnapped and the security team with her are all killed. It is now a hostage/kidnapped situation with the book being about the frantic efforts to meet the kidnappers demands.

It's very timely, too, with all the southern border shenanigans going on these days.

It's a very good book and worth reading.
