For those of you familiar with them, do Montana Rifleman actions come from the factory trued, lapped, polished, etc. or are they strictly a stock-finished action? I realize in asking this, that if they are stock, that they're probably still finished much better than any of our popular factory actions. Thanks.

I just finished one, and that one at least, was much rougher finished inside than any factory action I had worked on. The safety and cocking were also gritty. After 10 hrs of work it became really smooth. The outside of the action was smooth and required no polishing what so ever. Lugs and alighnment of bolt and action were good. Lefty

I have two, one cm, one stainless. Both needed lots of time to get them smooth, but the outside finish was OK.

So, here is my question- when you specify that it took some work to get the things to function the way you liked- was this just sitting down with said rifle and manipulating the mechanism to smoothen things out, or did this involve disassembly and polishing the critical areas of the said parts???

Disassembly, truing, and polishing by a gunsmith. In the case of my stainless magnum action, which was my second M1999 project, it could still use some more lapping of the bolt raceways. All things considered, I'll probably use Winchester CRF or Mauser actions in the future.

This image is my M99 action from their first batch, I was one of the subscribers. This one had the Williams bottom metal which Williams says was left unpolished as Montana requested. Jim Brockman built this into a .458 Lott, and he told me it was dimensionally "on" from the factory. jim
