Remember this, with your childish behavior and your know it all mentality and your lack of knowing how to communicate in a rational adult like manner I WILL ALWAYS WIN ! Understand?! But l doubt, very much, that it would change any time in the near future. Even.. though there are a few that don’t measure up to you and say what they think, can’t compare to your massive child like ways you possess.

How was accuracy with 4198 got data looking at it 31.9 thru 35.5 with 130 gr. Still trying to figure where I'll need to be using 4198 with 120gr sst. Data came from lee modern reloding 2 data for 130

I'd try the loads Seafire posted with 4198 first.
He has more experience researching and working up reduced loads than anyone I know.

I’m using 32grs in my 30-06 with 150’s and accuracy is quite good.

If you’re hunting with that load, I’d base my MV on an impact velocity no less than 2300 fps with that bullet. Realistically if you are shooting 200 yards max, that’s going to give you a MV in the 2700 fps range.

Hint: Starting load using IMR-4064.

H4895 is another great choice. However, the MV might be too low at a full 40% reduction off max.

Yeah, they say that because it's load data with IMR 4895, has not be worked up and tested.

At the same time, the H 4895 HAS been worked up, but NOT by Hodgdon. It was given to Hodgdon by ADI in Australia who makes the powder... ADI ( Australian Defense Industries ) decided due to the size of its military and its population, if it had to settle on one powder for all of its needs, then whatever they call H 4895, was a middle burn rate spectrum and it would fit the bill for the Australian Military forces.

HOWEVER consider military needs, accuracy doesn't have to meet, what hunters expect down range. In military needs, they want economy, and accuracy doesn't have to be that good, because they are putting a lot of bullets down range in volume.

I find IMR 4895 more accurate than H 4895, in any cartridge ya wanna pick... and it works just fine for reduce loads also, especially over ADI's/ Hodgdon's 4895. It is more predictable and more consistent. You can use it with confidence.

Good info Seafire.Thanks .

I am continually astounded at how quickly people make up their minds on little evidence or none at all.

+1. I settled on 33 grs of either IMR4198 or Reloder 7 with the Hornady 130 gr SST in my 270 Win rifle. MV was around 2450 fps for IMR4198 and just over 2500 fps for RL7. Accuracy at 100 yards was good for either powder but RL7 produced the best group. YMMV. By the way I need to give credit to Seafire for his recommendations on reduced loads. I just developed these loads after last season, so have yet to see how they do on deer or hogs.

I shot a 270 in a Remington 700 Classic for many years, and although the recoil was certainly manageable, I would notice it after a session at the range. In actual hunting, I never felt it. If I was wanting something with less recoil, I'd do one of two things........go to a different cartridge that has less recoil, such as the 6.5 Creedmoor, or I'd put the 270 barreled action in a heavier stock with a thicker recoil pad. The 270 is race horse that doesn't deserve to be held back.

While the 270 Win is a high performance cartridge, I really don't need that type of performance where I hunt. Also, I did not experiment with reduced loads to reduce recoil. Let me explain. I got a fantastic deal on a Sightmark 4K Mini NV scope that I wanted to get for night hunting of hogs, which have recently invaded our hunting area. So, I bought the Sightmark. I use a CVA V2 Scout in 444 Marlin as my main hunting rifle, since the distances at which I have shot game average within 100 yards. I have had a Winchester 70 SS classic in 270 Win for some years but really did not use it much. I then decided to install the Sightmark on my Win 70 but there was a slight problem - the Sightmark 4K is only rated to withstand recoil up to 308 Winchester. Hence, the rationale for my reduced loads in the 270 Winchester. Yeah, I know I could have bought another rifle just for this duty but I'm too old to splurge on extra toys. I will say though that shooting these reduced loads is very enjoyable! I still have the option of using full-power 270 loads if needed, though I would have to use another scope (which is sighted-in and ready to go).

Sounds like a neat option for a sweet shooting rifle that will prolong barrel life yet still get the job done in close where most game is harvested any way.

Look forward to hearing how this plays out for you in the field. Wish you well!
