Brutal. What an awful way to lose a dog. Cannot fathom the agony of having to listen to her down there… horrifying. So sorry.  I’ll never forget my Lab, Lucy, launching off a cliff over a creek after a flushed/hit ruffed grouse… the memory is in slow motion… noooooooo!! She was ok, but the level of obsession bird dogs have cannot be underestimated.

Any rock climbing onion-heads you can whip up down at Starbucks? The mountain is too dangerous. I was headed to go up, but my wife stopped me. She said she couldn't lose us both. I've been there many times, and a lot of chukar live on the steep face. A lot of hunters hunt the canyon at it's base, but I have never seen anyone on the face or even up it 10-20 feet.

Perhaps in time you can come to see it as she died doing what she absolutely LIVED to do, and is resting on a mountainside surrounded by her great love- chukar. In a sense we should all be so lucky.
We got our first puppy killed via STUPIDITY that still haunts me over 30 years later. Buried Kayla on a hillside in the Cascades. I think of her every time I drive over that pass, go by that hillside. It leaves a mark- as it should. Dogs are pure souls that love us warts and all like nothing else.

That really sucks. My late father once lost a brittany spaniel on a blue grouse hunt in CO. Never found it. He thought a cougar probably grabbed it. He didnt hunt birds for a long time after that.

Bruce, that's a heartbreaker! I don't know you, and I'm not even a dog guy. But my daughter and son in law are. Their Griffon, Sage, had a beautiful litter and they've sold all but one or two females.
