Can't imagine it's much fun for the beasts either. But scheidt must get done, eh?

From what I have seen horses seem damn near imune to it.... I have been freezing my azz off in the saddle and the horse is actually sweating....

Yeah, horses are animals that live outside so regardless of work they enjoy the weather 24/7/365.

No fancy heated horse barns around here.

But obviously we provide them with wind protection and all the grub they can eat.

fubar,

Well, I guess carrying a human around takes some effort grin

Sam,

yeah, well fed I'm sure that giant grass processor in their gut puts out some heat.

I imagine their like certain breeds of dogs........as long as they're out doing what they like to do, they'd rather that than be indoors until it's really crappy.

Geno, they've never been indoors.

It's way colder at night with the breeze than it ever has been while we've been out riding.

No comparison.

You folks have three sided sheds/lean to's for them? Seems a lot of folks here do. There's one in our little pasture where a previous owner or tenant would do some shoeing for folks.

Those feral ones up the road a bit at least have junipers to get into when it gets down below zero. Some low areas they can get out of the wind some too I imagine.

I'm just an old softie I guess.

I always wondered about that. Some folks in these parts have blankets/covers on them in the winter. I understand the face covers, some places I wish had one for myself due to the gd'd face flies. Never found the right person to ask about the blanket deal though.
