I have some 115 grain Nosler bal tips and some 117 grain Sierra btsp I’d like to load in my ackley. The only two powders I have readily available in any qty are IMR4831 and IMR4350. Wondering if anyone has loaded either powder with these bullets and gotten good results? Thanks for any info.

Sierra #VI has data for both powders with that bullet in Federal brass with WLR @ 3.130" OAL.

IMR4350 starts at 47.2 @ 2900fps & goes to 51.4 @ 3200fps

IMR4831 starts at 50.0 @3000fps & goes to 54.2 @3200fps

FWIW, Sierra's hunting load is at max with IMR4831 while their accuracy load is at max with N165.

Same as in the .25-06 "standard." Just add 2-3 grains.

Or add powder until you start to see traditional "pressure signs." The velocity is likely to be far higher than with 2-3 grains more powder, and pressure 70,000+ PSI.

Yep, P.O.’s last laugh. Most AI cartridges give marginal velocity increases - at identical pressures. AI data published in the past used over-pressured loads to impress the reader. And don’t try to tell me that AI cartridges can reduce bolt thrust due to their “minimum case taper” - that’s another of Ackley’s tricks. Bottom line, they look cool and have very minor advantages over their parent cartridges but they aren’t magic.

But they were sure fun to work with before we had access to Chronographs!!!!!

What is that saying. More hearts broken with purchase of a chronograph than with addition of GPS speedometer to the boat.
