Do they teach how to change a tire?

No. From what I see out on the highway and the streets, they don't teach much of anything else either.

Nope. Most teachers probably don’t know themselves.

I drove a four door Chevy, not only did we change a tire, we had to drive with a milk bottle on the transmission hump, and not tip it over.

Not that I recall - then again, my dad didn't expect everyone to teach me everything and I didn't expect everyone to teach my son everything either.

This is chit you should be teaching your own kids and those that don't or won't and just bemoan that "they no longer teach XXX in school" are the problem with this country. Pass the buck....

Young drivers are clueless and helpless. A 20-something guy at work said his car wouldn't start.
I asked if he had checked the air in his tires.
His reply - do you think that might work?

Another nit-wit coworker, this one in his 30's, had a flat on the way to work. Called 911. The dispatcher made it crystal clear to him what the 911 system was all about!

Where I went to high school, drivers-Ed and sex education was pretty much all rolled up into the same curriculum.

Unfortunately, too many school districts are too focused on teaching XXX.

Which is why, as a parent, if you feel the school isn't teaching what you think your kid should know - teach them yourself! Taxes, saving, check book, basic automotive, home ec etc.

My granddaughter, age 21, has not only changed tire for one of her friends in college she has used the jump box I gave her for christmas several times at school to help a fellow student.

Yes but there are some things that are best taught by non-family members. For instance, back in the 70's my driver's Ed teacher was a young woman who taught me the invaluable lesson of how to avoid ending up in the ditch when driving and receiving a hummer.

No instructor didn't do chiit, my Dad taught me how to change a tire in the driveway....and don't put gas in the tank without writing down the mileage and gallons added !!!..... geezuz Dad

I don't presume to know everything about driving, but I taught my kids to drive.

They can drive a manual transmission. They can change flat tires. They can hook up trailers. They can even back those trailers.

Can they do all that after 18 beers?
