Got this for my ol' lefty step-father several years ago. Remained untouched since - so he says to send it down the road. I dinked with it some when I got it, cleaning up the stock and chopped at both ends for pickup duty. LOL. Tru-Oiled it lightly IIRC. LOP is 13-1/8" and barrel is about 19-3/4" with an 11 degree crown. Walnut and blued chromoly goodness. Metal blind floorplate that I surmise can easy be swaped out for a drop floorplate. Receiver is d&t for a receiver sight. Had it setup for minute of deer figuring he'd like trying a left hand rifle as he always suffered right handers. Alas aging sucks and there's no hunt left in him. Dandy deer rifle for your lefty friend or family.

How about $500 shipped with the Vortex Crossfire 4-12 if you want it.

Hmm. Not sure on these Savages. Charlie, the ejection port measures 3.25".

I just measured one of my short actions and it is 3.000. So I think yours is a long action.

I did it. Crowned with a Manson Muzzle Crown kit. It's 11 degree all the way out.

Nice old Savage. A 110 will be a long action where 10, 11, 12, 14 will be short action. No expert but I don't think they made short actions in this vintage rifle manufacture timing.

110DL Series H per barrel. Pretty dandy Savage in my eye.

$445 without scope. $475 as pictured.

That is a first generation short action. And a nice one at that. I have one similar in .308 built the same year as me, 1959.

Cool. Yes, those 1st Gen measurements jibe. I like it, no plastic.

It's headed for a young lady. Should be an excellent forever rifle.

Does anyone know when the short action changed, or otherwise might guess at this rifle's vintage?

First Generation Short Actions:
The 1st Generation short actions are often incorrectly referred to as "Series J" actions or Intermediate Actions. These actions will have a three digit model number (110, 112, etc), but are approximately 0.540" shorter than the standard long action.

Savage used series letters (i.e. Series J) solely to identify small changes to individual parts over the years. These series indications were only used to identify what parts to use on the rifle should it ever come back to the factory for repair or warranty service. Think of it as a version or revision number. As such, it's common to find a long action rifle with the barrel marked "Series J", and as such it's not a good idea to simply refer to the 1st Generation short actions as "J-Series" as the series has no bearing on the actual action length. Additionally, a rifle can be marked with a series letter other than "J" and still be one of these 1st Gen short actions.

The 1st Generation short actions were discontinued in 1988 when Savage went into bankruptcy. From 1988 to the launch of the 2nd Generation Short Action in 1998, all rifles offered in a short-action cartridge were built on long actions with a shorter magazine well cut in the bottom of the action.

I cut and pasted this from savageshooters.com.

Thank you all. The rifle will be going to my daughter. Anxious to see her shoot it and appreciate all of the information provided. Should be a great deer/varmint gun for her.
