Heading to WV Sunday for their rifle season. Trying to fill the freezer and spend some quality time with family as well.
I ordered a barreled action from brownells...7mm08 howa 1500. Dropped it into a weatherby vanguard stock, all ready to go.
Decided this rifle is a pretty solid do-it-all...
I'm sure I will get a bunch of people telling me how much my choice sucks. Am I missing out on anything?
Good hunting to you all.

Nah I wanted the barreled action because I hate the stupid hogue stocks and getting it sans stock saved me 100 bucks.

I like your choice. A solid rifle chambered for a great cartridge. Good luck in WV. There are some big bucks over there.

Good choice....
Often considered a howa barreled action years ago but it seemed i wasn't saving that much money over a stocked offering... . .. my 1500 ended up in a B&C medalist.

The 7mm08, 7x51, is basically a short action 7x57, so, hell yes, its a good choice for shooting medium game.
I like Howa 1500s, but like you, strongly dislike the Hogue stocks, and think that the V2 stocks are the best injection molded stocks that any manufacturer is putting on their regular production rifles these days.
If, at some point down the road, you want to upgrade the stock, there are some good options out there. GPC has NOS walnut stocks from back when S&W was the Howa 1500 importer. Stocky's has their own brand of carbon fiber stocks and B&C makes a Weatherby style that I also like.

I did the same thing. Had a Bansner stock from a Howa Alpine to put it in. Great rifle!
