Speaking of inflation, I just checked the retail price of the Win. Model 70, 257 Roberts, in my 1950 The Gun Digest. It retailed for $124.00.

Things have gone up a bit since then, huh? grin

FWIW.

$1559 today by online calculator.

Pretty close to what a new Portugal gun costs.

Disregard my comments about the "extra holes" on the rear bridge. The first number, It looked like a 5 on my iphone.

Avg income of a family in 1950 was $3300 a year. Works out to about $1.59 an hour. Dad buying a $124 dollar rifle in 1950 was a big purchase.

Well aren’t you just mr generous 🥰👊. Now knowing that’s a factory D&T barreled action it’s worth more than $500 bucks.

You won’t get that on here, you need to go put it on gunbroker.

In my humble opinion, that may be a stretch even on GB.

I agree, but weird stuff happens on GB as you know. I think $1500 will be a stretch to get. I hope the OP didn't pay a bunch for it.

I did ask on another forum and a few people came up with a couple things on it that seemed like it was a transition model, at this point I don’t even remember what those things were. Also it never clicked with me about the checkering on the stock, I had several other rifles that age with similar looking stocks without checking and it never hit me that all model 70s had checkering. Sorry for not know what I had upfront.

With all that said what would a reasonable value be on a rifle like this? Still a pre 64 257 roberts that shoots good and has a good action with a leupold on it. I’m guessing I’ll be hanging on to it but still open to reasonable offers and opinions, thank you.

A good place to ask would be here in the Winchester collectors forums. I'd understand if you don't want to do that with this rifle though.
