I’ve been looking for a Remington 760 chambered in 35 Remington to go with my CVA single shot in the same caliber. The few I’ve came across were either out of my price range or in a little worse shape than I wanted. My wife’s uncle called me up and said he was going to sell a couple rifles and that he had a 1976 Marlin 336 in 35 Remington that I should consider. I’ve never owned or shot a center fire levergun, just semiautos, single shot, and bolt actions. I honestly had never considered a lever gun while searching for a repeater in 35 Remington. I picked up the rifle and a box of 200gr Corelokts, then posted a wtb add here looking for an old school 2-7 gloss scope, and ordered a set of Burris Zee lows in anticipation. I purchased an old school 2-7x28 Leupold gloss with friction adjustments from a member here in short order. Once everything arrived, I mounted and bore sighted the scope and was excited to get to shoot it.
My CVA single shot shoots the 200gr Hornady’s best so I was hoping this Marlin would like them as well as I had recently picked up a couple boxes. At the range, I shot first at 50 yards, made adjustments to 1” low at 50 then moved out to 100yds. Shot two at 100 and made adjustments for 2” high at zero which will be right at 2.5” low at 200. My next three shots went into a .42” group and was witnessed by a shooting/hunting buddy who was on the spotting scope. This little lever gun shot the best group of the day out of 7 different rifles we shot. I didn’t even try the Remington ammo.
The little levergun is light, relatively short, handles well, and is surprisingly (to me) very accurate... what have I been missing.
