I recently saw a Performance Center 629-6 that I need help identifying.
I can not find references to it in any catalog or online.
Any information would be appreciated.

The piece I saw looked similar to a Performance Center Competitor except that its integral scope mount rail had 5 slots versus the Competitor's 3.
Also, the area where the barrel weights are stored was fully exposed as opposed to the Competitor's split view weight storage area.

The piece I am inquiring about:
* Was test fired in 07/2002 according to the spent shell envelope
* Had a serial number starting with MBR
* Had a 7.5-inch barrel with NO compensator
* Had a full underlug that contained 6 balancing weights
* Had an UNfluted, 6-round cylinder
* Had a trigger stop adjustment
* Had target trigger, hammer, and sights
* Had a round butt grip frame
* Came in an aluminum, locking case with a large Performance Center placard
* Is NOT a Performance Center Competitor
* Is NOT a Stealth Hunter

The owner of this Smith thought it was 1 of 150 made for Lew Horton???
Can anyone shed some truth on the origin of this weapon? Thanks,

I will try later to get some pix attached, but can send them via text if requested.

I may be wrong, but a 629-6 would be one of the internal lock N frame. Don’t think any of the Lee Hortons were done with the -6’s. Most were 3” barrels.

Thanks for your input. This particular 629-6 did have an internal lock.

Today, I stumbled across a former Lew Horton Distributor's employee that looks up serial numbers to verify Lew Horton Special Editions. They issue letters similar to the Colt letters to verify one of their commissions. Hopefully, I will get some definitive info from them. In the mean time, I would still like to hear other opinions here.

Thanks,

I am lost on what you are looking for given what has been provided? I have lettered Lew Horton guns and they will be prompt in their reply.

Well Ed, I am looking for exactly what I asked for in my OP, namely information regarding whether this is a LH. I sent Susan the serial number this evening. Hopefully she can shed some light. I will post the results when available.

Once upon a time I owned both the .41 Mag and .44 Mag PC Lew Horton Hunter II with a ported 7" barrel. They come up for sale from time to time in the $1,300 range and they are worth every penny.

The PC 629 Stealth Hunter is pretty much a clone of the Lew Horton. Not sure there is any real difference between the two.

This morning, I received a very quick reply from the Lew Horton Distribution representative, Susan Lorusso.
The weapon described above WAS NOT listed in the LHD Special Edition database.

But I would still like to learn more about it. Hoping to get pictures added tomorrow.

For others wanting to get LHD verification, Susan can be contacted at: slorussolewhorton.com

Not yet. The seller of this item was adamant that it was a Lew Horton.

Contacting S&W will be my next move. Thanks Wilson.

When the Performance Center really started ramping up their game, the Lew Horton runs didn't hold as much appeal. Cool designs but nothing that you can't find in the current PC catalogue.

From an investment standpoint, their exclusivity made them attractive back in the day. Not so much now.

Good luck with your quest!

Unfortunately, lately every seller I have encountered that thought they had a Lew Horton have assigned a hefty premium value to them. Caveat Emptor!

Not surprised. If you are not a member of the S&W Forum you should be if Smith's are of interest. Crazy knowledge base there.

Yes, EdM, I am a member there too but I don’t get to spend as much time there as I do on Campfire.

Pictures up. Made in 2002. You can see the differences between this and the Performance Center Competitor.
