beretzs,

I took your advice and loaded up some IMR4831. Barnes has 74.7grns as max so I loaded five rounds at 72grns, 72.5grns, 73grns & 73.5grns. The 73.5 looks promising. I am seating 30 off the lands.

Thanks again for your help.

I think you found what you were looking for, lol.

I've been loading Barnes since about 1992, starting with the X, XLC, TSX and now the TTSX, in calibers from 22 Hornet on up to 300 Weatherby.

What I have noticed is, my best accuracy with the TSX and TTSX, comes in at the upper end of the powder charges, regardless of the cartridge, and, the TSX/TTSX are not as sensitive to seating depth for best accuracy. I start with the Barnes COL, and have not had to change from that to get great accuracy, though I did play with COL for a friends custom Hart in 300Win.

I am pretty happy with the results. I have also found that my best results have been with the heavier powder charges. Gonna take my chrono out tomorrow and check the 165 loads so I can dial in my BT. Once that is done I should have my one gun/load solution for anything I will ever want to hunt.

Have a great Thanksgiving.

Great advice there Scotty. Looks like the OPs rifle is doing damn good. Can't ask for much better than that. Surprised he had IMR4831 on hand though. The other day I was going to mess around with my 300wm and the powder I suggested, but saw how much I paid for the damn bullets and thought twice about it:

My 300 RSAUM loves that bullet.

I am very happy with the results. Looks like I might be able to put the 300WM stuff aside on the bench and start working on my 25-06 which is what I purchased the IMR4831 for originally. I feel your pain on the price for the Barnes Bullets. I found two boxes of the 165TTSX at BPS on Sunday and bought both of them. Unfortunately no IMR4831 on the shelf and none at Midway or Midsouth. When it is available again I think I am going to go ahead and get 8lbs instead of buying one pound at a time.

Everyone have a Great Thanksgiving!

Good luck on finding that IMR4831 Clifford. I use a powder that is almost identical to it (AA3100). I'm sure beretzs has burned up a bunch of that stuff too, as it works very well in the 300wm and 338wm. Your idea to move on to the 25-06 is a good one. That IMR4831 should work damn well for that cartridge. I've used AA3100 in my 25-06 with good success. Actually having fun loading up ammo with discontinued powder and discontinued bullets:

Then using AA3100 with some 100gr ballistic tips:

Got lucky with this Ruger #1, as it shoots pretty consistently. Not expecting benchrest rifle accuracy, but happy when they all fall within 1 moa with the old girl. Good luck with your 25-06 loading, and hopefully you will be able to get your hands on some IMR4831 powder. I think the last time I used it was in the early 2000's with some 190gr BTSP interlocks in my 30-06 rifles. After that, I moved on to H4831 because it was more temp stable and easier to find.
