This is a Mauser 98 in 35 Whelen. It was made by a long-time bow maker who put it together for a friend. The action is a Ramage, made by FN or Steyr for the Columbian military contract. These were made in 30-06, so the conversion to 35 Whelen (same case) was easy with a new barrel. The safety has been converted to a tab safety, and a more modern bolt handle installed. It comes in a camo synthetic stock, with Burris rings, a Simmons 2.5-10 Aetec scope, and a matching camo sling. A cheap way into the great 35 Whelen.

looks like the wrong scope bases for it. The back one looks cockeyed.

It's an extension ring to fit over the little "hump" on the rear bridge without having to grind it off.

Looks can be deceiving. As the OP said, it is designed to clear the charger hump so the hump doesn't have to be removed. Heck of a deal for a Whelen!

Not sure Recoil pad says CoreLife, but not sure if that's the pad or the stockmaker.
