There’s a Quonset hut for sale here semi local that would be perfect size wise for a machine shed/storage. Problem is it’s too big to trailer the trusses and they’d need to be cut and then reassembled with plates. I know it’s a big PITA, but if I can get it bought and disassembled and got to my place I have the labor and equipment get it all put back together next summer.
My question is, is it worth it? Wood framed 80x36. Doesnt appear to be on concrete walls, I’d be putting it on the ground probably as well.
If it hasnt sold I may go look at it tonight.
What says the ‘fire?

Big job, best of luck. Metal quonsets were a dime a dozen on Guam when I lived there, residue from WW2. Some were quite durable during typhoons.
I am..........disturbed.

There was a few years ago an old WW2 video on the assembly and disassembly of the Quonset Huts. Don't remember if it was a YouTube video, or one of the Military film shorts put online. But I'll see if I can find it. Haven't found the video yet, but here's a manual: 40' x 100' https://www.history.navy.mil/conten...ications/Manuals/Quonset%20Huts/QH-7.pdfPhil

Pencil it out, I'd put it on some kind of foundation. My dad moved one back in the 90's and it's still standing.

If it's in good condition and worth it why not?
Still some in use around the city as small businesses and see them around the county out on ranches and farms as well.
Sell offs most likely from the previous Navy base at the local inland seaport built during WW2.

I operated our business out of 1 & 1/2 Quonset buildings, that size for 11 years, until we had to move.
When the lot sold, they offered me the buildings, for free, as long as I moved them.
Businesses had to be out & the buildings off in 45 days.
No budge room.
Didn't do it, no where to put them.
Found out later the the contractor, had quoted them 50K each to dismantle & "dispose" of !
They are still standing, on that block & the hotel project never went forward.
Sucks to be them - $80K/year in city taxes, & now no income !!!

Thanks guys. If it were steel framed it’d be a no brainer. Take it apart and reassemble. The problem is the trusses will need to be cut, then braced upon reassembly. That’s my sticking point.
I’d love to put it in a short concrete wall but that’s icing on the cake. Main point is if it’s worth reassembling it after cutting the trusses

How hard is it to plate a truss? Especially if you cut it in the right spot?

How far away is it, and would it be feasible to move it the same way you would a house? Put in side and cross beams and jack it up.

Is it just the frame, or covered?

We took down a large metal building once (used car dealership)... We spray painted XA or XB or XC etc. on each panel to aid in the matching part reassembly.
As for a Q hut... No idea...
Post a few pics maybe?

It wouldn't be to difficult to make some metal truss plates. you might have mto build a jig to ensure you get the trusses true but it shouldn't be to difficult.

Is it just the frame, or covered? It's the whole building. 8K for him to disassemble and help load. Given the size and price it caught my eye. But it's not steel ribs, it's one piece laminated wood ribs. It was built on site. To move I need to cut the ribs into 3rds to be able to move it to my place along with the stacked metal.
