I have not done such a conversion, but I can't see any reason why a 308 rotor wouldn't work just fine. The 250 Souper is basically a 308 necked down to .257", or a 243 necked up. I had a 99E in 300 Savage rebarreled to 308 and had no problems feeding from the magazine. That's a whole different case.

Was my thoughts too, I have used 308 donors for alot of non standard 99 cartridges in the 308 family or close, so this should work if I find a good donor gun.

I have a 25 Souper in a Winchester 88 that was a .308 originally - feeds just fine …….not a 99 but just throwing it out there for thought.

I had a 25 Souper on a 99CD. It worked fine, but I wanted more velocity and rechambered it to 25-284.

I have 99F in 260, rebored/rechambered from 243, that feeds fine.

I'd try making some snap-cap 25 Souper blanks and try working them through the action, see how they feed, you should be able to close the bolt on any 308 chambered rifle

Why the 25 souper interests me to some degree i have several hundred new 260 Rem brass, which I could neck down, i have hundreds of 308 new brass too but that might be more of a process, a off spring of the 308 interests me. I have a couple 6.5 CM in process, I drank the CM koolaid a couple of years ago and got them started.

My 99s in 25 Souper, 257AI, and 25-284 are, or were, all rechambered 250-3000 take-off barrels from 99As and 99CDs with a 1-10" ROT. The 25 Souper worked fine in the 99CD magazine with bullets in the 75 to 120 grain range, no COAL issues that I recall. The 257AI and 25-284 were put together for shooting coyotes with 75 and 90 grain Sierras, so even with longer 57mm and 55mm cases, they didn't run into COAL issues.

If you have a factory barrel rebored and chambered for a Creedmoor based cartridge, the barrel would need to be set back and the forearm refitted to align the forearm screw. Wildcating on the 308 case doesn't add that additional degree of complexity to the build. Of course, when I had my 99F in 243 turned into a 260 the 6.5 Creedmoor hadn't been introduced yet. A Savage Axis or 110 series barrel in 6.5 CM could be reworked to fit a 99 action, but it would require as much machine work as would an after-market barrel.

Many years ago I was lucky to get Bullberry to rebarrel my Savage 99 to 25 Souper. The rifle shot very well and, with original Barnes bullets, was a great Whitetail killer. Wish I still had it.

I suspect the 6.5 CM may have length issues with longer bullets, but i have killed alot critters with Barnes 120 grain bullets in the 260 rem., they feed just fine in the in the e and f i have rebarreled to 260 so I am hoping. The CM project is a clip gun so we shall see. I owned a 99 in 6.5 CM in passing, i bought it and was talked out of it before i even had my hands on it, deal was good and away it went but I have lost contact with the buyer, I think there might of been health issues, i suspect that was 110 take off barrel, cause the forearm had been tinkered with to get the barrel to fit, at least what i remembered from the pics, it was not a 99 profile.

I just like the 308 deriatives, both up and down!

Not a Man Bun fan but it is a better choice than the 260 Remington in the 99. The 6.5 Creed is the "wonder" cartridge so I might as well get used to it!

The .25 Souper would be an excellent cartridge for the Savage 99 action in my opinion! I have long had a goal to have a Savage 99 in each of the Savage calibers:

.22 Savage Hi-Power, .250-3000 Savage, .300 Savage and .303 Savage!

It's the other way around, the 260 has bigger problems with longer bullets in a short magazine. The 6.5 Creed is better in short magazines.
