Title says it all. I rarely (as in almost never) shoot at deer beyond 200 yards, but if... that once in a lifetime critter showed up way out there, what would be the extreme range for reliable performance? The cartridge is a .250 Savage.

What's your muzzle velocity--and do you only hunt in Connecticut?

Muzzle velocity is 2800 FPS. I mostly hunt in Connecticut, but occasionally also in the Adirondacks—my friend has a camp there and lots of land, but out of state permits are costly.

Plug in the numbers and get your answer, more or less.

I just ran the number through Berger's ballistics program, using typical temperatures and elevations for that area during deer season. The LRXs are designed to open a little easier than standard TTSXs, so gave it a minimum of 1800 fps on impact.

According to the program, the bullet should retain at least 1800 fps out to around 450 yards.

Thanks for the quick reply! Good to know, even if I never take a shot like that.

that bullet is a tack driver in my 257AI. Anxious to give it a workout on deer and hogs this fall.

A report of your experience with that bullet would be a good thing, southtexas.

The 6.5 LRX out of my 6.5-300 wby is a potent killer way out there.

It was finicky to find a load, but everything with the cartridge is touchy.
