I’m playing with a new batch of Alpha brass (my first from them), TAC, and some 130gr TTSXs in a Tikka T3X (17” barrel and suppressor). Loaded to mag length, the bullets contact the powder at about 49.5 grains. Barnes lists a max load of 51.2gr, acknowledging that it’s a compressed load. Should I expect pressure signs well before that in this brass, since it seems my loads are compressed well earlier?

I’ll be working up to 50.5 with the batch I’ve made, to be safe but am curious for any advice and watch-outs. Tia.

How far off the lands are you running those? I'd be more concerned about that, than loading to mag length. Got to be careful with that one.

Not alpha but I was running 50g TAC in R-P brass at 2.825" coal. I had it up to 51g with no pressure but groups opened up. So settled at 50. Now I run 49g varget and get better accuracy than TAC.

In my 22" Model 700, I get just shy of 3,200 fps with 49.4 grains of TAC in Lapua brass and a CCI #34 primer.

No pressure signs, typical Barnes accuracy.

How are you guys getting that much Varget into a case with a Barnes?

I’m crunching at 44 gr, Petersen brass and a 150 TTSX seated with 50 thou jump. Boattail at neck/shoulder.

I use TAC and Varget. Varget gave me best groups. 50g TAC, 49g Varget. And yeah it fits.

I have to reduce my loads in alpha 6.5 Creedmoor brass because it's heavier than my Hornady or starline and has less capacity. I ended up with about 1.5g less h4350 in alpha brass than I run in Hornady.

Wow. I’m close to the neck with 49gr.

I tap my brass to let the powder settle. Similar to those that vibrate them to settle stck powders.
